DBR Milestone: 45 Years of Distinction

HOUSTON - With a small office on Mercer Street in Houston, David W. Day began DBR Engineering Consultants, Inc. in 1972, with one employee, his wife, who worked as the company’s bookkeeper. Today, DBR employs more than 120 employees throughout seven offices and works on multidiscipline engineering projects throughout Texas. The firm earned $18 million in revenue in 2016, appearing on Houston Business Journal’s Fast 100 and San Antonio Business Journal’s Fast Track rankings.

“I first joined DBR in 1985,” said Randy Curry, PE, LEED AP, CxA, President of DBR. “I was the third Professional Engineer hired into a firm that numbered twelve. I like to think of myself as the lucky number thirteen.”

Over thirty years later, Randy Curry continues to set the pace for DBR by applying his progressive insight to achieve transformational growth. Together, DBR’s eight managing Partners have evolved the firm with their collective experience and knowledge. They stay true to creating an environment where their people feel empowered to take risks and create advanced engineering designs. As a result, DBR was tasked with the design of its’ largest project to date in 2016, the 4.2 million square foot Daikin Texas Technology Park campus in Waller, Texas.

“This is a pivotal time for DBR,” Curry states. “As we celebrate the firms’ forty-fifth anniversary, we continue to expand our resources, refine our services, and progress to meet the needs of our clients.”

This year DBR strengthened their capabilities by adding two new market leaders, Carlo Sechi as Director of Higher Education and Dan Milgrim as Director of Science and Technology, to further grow DBR’s expertise in these areas. Looking ahead, DBR plans to push sustainability to the forefront of their core mission for all business sectors. By embracing design elements that focus on conserving the earth’s resources, they hope to enhance and preserve occupant health and wellness where they live, work, learn, and relax. Lastly, DBR will update its current work-spaces to achieve a higher level of sustainability so that their most valuable asset, their employees, are healthier and happier.

“From our devoted Partners and Project Managers, to our committed Administrative and Marketing personnel, I’m humbled to lead this talented group of individuals,” said Curry. “Without these people, our continued growth and success would not be possible.”
